Having a swimming pool in the back yard is a total bliss! You can practice some sport and you can use the natural sunlight for sunbathing without even booking tickets for some tourist destinations or without even packing some huge baggage!

The best thing about swimming pool addition to your exterior design is that once you make that huge investment, you can freely use it and have relaxation on a budget

Though, as any other big purchase or expensive home improvement, a swimming pool requires some good and proper maintenance, too. Don’t worry, it is not difficult or expensive at all. You just have to read some nice recommendations in advance and you have to follow the instructions carefully and on time. See a guide for an easy maintenance for your swimming pool:
  • Cleaning – besides the general sanitising of the swimming pool, you need to clean the area around it. For instance, in the cold period, when the pool isn’t used, keep it yet sterilised and fresh. Pick up the leaves in autumn, and wipe it down, when the snow begins to melt. Try to minimise the application of toxic detergents or chemicals. Don’t forget that you actually enter naked inside the pool. Choose the natural products in order to avoid rashes and allergies.

  • Check the filter regularly – you need to disinfect it constantly and must get rid of all the leftover sediments. Plus – a swimming pool filter should also be replaced with a new one once in a while. If you hesitate when to do it, call a professional for consultation.

  • Pool pump needs prophylaxis, too. Once the pump pressure reaches 8–10 psi above normal, turn the valves to reserve the flow and attentively wash the system.

  • Water in swimming pool should be tested periodically. The normal level of chlorine is 1 to 3 ppm. Keep the pH neutral, which is 7.2 and 7.6 parts per million (ppm).

  • Give your swimming pool a chlorine shock treatment and always have shock supplies just in case.

  • Pool drains must be preserved in a perfect condition, because they do half of the work.

  • Vacuuming – the tiles and the brush walls needs some vacuuming for the safety of your own hygiene and health. Besides, the organic remains in your swimming pool may damage its surface.

Never hesitate to turn to an expert. Some of the tasks from the swimming pool maintenance checklist are not exactly appropriate for DIY project.
